It’s that time of year for office holiday parties.
Here’s some of my tips for acing it with class:
~Do show up
It’s a party c’mon it can’t be that bad. It’s a great way to get to know people outside of work in a more social way including your bosses. Let people see you can be a real person instead of an office robot.
~Do dress appropriately
If it’s an evening cocktail dinner, no jeans please. Wear shoes that you can still walk around the room in without falling on your face.
Ladies please save your skanky club clothes for the nightclubs. Too short, too revealing, too tight is out. Dress stylishly conservative but not ultra boring or sloppy. Evening is a great time for one sparkly item but not so much that you’re shinier than a Christmas tree. For outfit ideas see my Fashion pins.
Gents please iron your clothes. Crease your long dress pants with an iron and steam or iron a long sleeve shirt. Feel free to dress up your shirt with a vest, necktie or dinner jacket. Bowties are a fun festive choice now for a holiday party. Or just wear a nice suit. Dress shoes, no sneakers.
~Don’t get wasted
Have a few drinks if you want and enjoy yourself but do not drink excessively to create drunken drama. If you are drinking make sure you sober up before you drive home or have a designated driver. Arrive alive.
~Do bring a decent guest with you.
Not some random weirdo from online but someone who you know is good company and will not become an embarrassing party pooper.
~Don’t underestimate the power of Networking while you’re there.
Get to know people. Don’t talk shop the entire time or complain about work or gossip at the party. Keep conversations light and participate in fun activities.
Have fun but keep it classy people!
