My next Adventure! Becoming a Web Developer

September 7, 2016

how-to-become-a-web-developerAfter much thoughts and consideration I decided to quit my job and go back to school.

My ongoing struggle with immigration led me to the decision to take time off and deal with immigration, go take classes to improve myself while waiting on processing. Then apply for jobs again once it’s over.

I got accepted at UCF’s Coding Boot Camp Class where I’ll learn to be a Full Stack Web developer and gain skills to become proficient in front-end and back-end technologies.

Since I started this blog I’ve become more interested in how websites work and the types of technologies used to create modern, user-friendly websites.

The class should also help me sharpen my coding skills which have gotten quite rusty since I left school. Not like they taught Electrical Engineers how to code much anyway when I was in college.

The learning aspect and classroom setting should be fun, although I’m not really looking forward to homework. Lucky for me, my husband is very supportive of me taking the time off now and getting new tech skills.

I want to have more career options that becoming a web developer should allow, such as getting more into design and development instead of just software
 testing.

After much research, I ended up choosing UCF’s class because it’s a part time class for 6 months and in-person. They give a certificate, help me build a portfolio and provide career placement support. Don’t want just another certificate and then no help finding a job afterwards.

I looked into several online classes but the online interface doesn’t seem to be my thing. I hate online video chats; no matter what I do, the video crashes and it’s extra frustrating when that happens while I’m learning. Plus, I like having the opportunity to meet others who are also learning and I’ll get to visit Orlando often. (Hello theme parks!) Online classes are a great option though if there’s no in-person classes in your area.

I will try to document the process in case anyone else out there is looking to get into coding.

Hopefully the new skills I learn will help me make this blog even better 😉

So happy for you! I think you made a wonderful choice. It’s amazing how much opportunity there is in web development today, and these boot camps like the one you’ve joined make it easier than ever to become a competent developer.
