For my last trip I found the following Android apps useful*:
Google Calendar – If it’s not on my calendar it not important to me. I used it for adding reminders for the trip. Also I can schedule flights according to the correct timezone for both departure and landing.
Evernote – I keep my packing checklist here. It’s useful to share the list with my travelling companion to make sure we have the stuff we need.
Go City Card – Kept a QR code version of my multi-pass tickets here. It was easy to retrieve and scan at ticket counters.
Google Play Music – For playing music via Bluetooth in the rental car.
Google Trips – Surprisingly great for looking up activities, nearby attractions and restaurants near my current location. Looks better than what you see in Google Maps. Also creates its own version of my itinerary based on my calendar and emails automatically.
Health4Me – Not the greatest app experience but I do use it to keep a copy of my Health Insurance card in my phone in case of emergency.
Lyft – Great for hailing a ride when you don’t have a car. Fast and easy to use. Much cheaper than a taxi and no scandals and drama like Uber.
Google Maps – Useful for directions and traffic updates. (Waze is also a good alternative)
Netflix – In case I end up delayed or bored, I can try to Netflix and chill.
Nook – Used it to read magazines and books on my tablet. It lets me save them for use in offline mode on my tablet when I have to go into airplane mode. (The Kindle App is also good.)
Our Itinerary Viewer from Travefy – I used Travefy to plan a detailed itinerary for our last trip. I included tickets and passes, maps, parking notes in the itinerary online. It was easy to customize and share with others. It could all be viewed on my phone via their app.
*The opinions above are my own and unbiased. None of the above apps sent me anything for my recommendations. They are welcome to do so now 😛
If anyone has any questions or any recommendations to add to this list please leave a comment.
